RUSSEY Keo district police in Phnom Penh are on the lookout for three suspects involved in a knife attack that left a man dead on Sunday night.

District police chief Kol Yi told The Post on Monday that police are on the search for the suspects.

Tuol Sangke commune police chief Norng Sarbong named the victim as 30-year-old construction worker Ran Vai, who hailed from Svay Rieng province’s Romeas Hek district.

He said the victim’s body was found on Sunday night at the construction site where he worked in Tuol Sampov village in Russey Keo district’s Tuol Sangke commune.

Police were at first unable to identify the victim. But following further investigation and after news of the killing was broadcast on local media several hours later, they were able to locate the deceased’s family.

“The man who was killed knew the group that attacked him. The police were able to identify the suspects. After the killing, the police went to the suspects’ home, which is located in Kandal province. However, they had escaped,” Sarbong said.

He said the victim’s body was returned to his family, who took the remains back to his hometown in Svay Rieng on Sunday night.

Sarbong said the victim’s family told him that revenge fuelled the attack by fellow construction workers.

He said an autopsy found that the victim died on the spot after being hacked in his right arm, throat and then chest.
