Arsenal and England midfielder Jordan Nobbs has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee, her club have confirmed.

Nobbs suffered the injury in the 82nd minute of Arsenal’s 4-0 win over Everton on Sunday, a result which extended their victorious start to the season to eight WSL games and allowed them to remain six points clear of Manchester City as the season approaches its halfway point.

The 25-year-old has played a crucial role in Arsenal’s 12-match winning run to start the season, but her involvement in the remainder of the WSL campaign and even next summer’s World Cup - due to kick off in under seven months' time - is now in doubt.

A statement from Arsenal confirmed: “Following scans this morning, we can confirm that Jordan has suffered an ACL rupture in her left knee and she is now receiving specialist care.

“Everyone at the club wishes Jordan a speedy recovery and will give their full support in her journey back to full fitness.”

The Gunners have not put a timescale on the midfielder’s recovery and will assess her recovery over the coming weeks.

Nobbs' injury leaves Arsenal manager Joe Montemurro facing something of a selection headache with Kim Little also sidelined after fracturing her fibula in last month's win against Chelsea.

However, it is understood the Scottish international is making a swift recovery from her injury and could be back in the squad ahead of schedule.
