PUBG Xbox One release date: SURPRISE Steam game console news coming TODAY?

PlayerUnknown and Microsoft has confirmed that PUBG will be coming to Xbox One this year.

Brendan Greene – aka PlayerUnknown – and Chang Han Kim (CEO of PUBG Corp) opened the Xbox booth with Aaron Greenberg, General Manager of Xbox Games Marketing and the announcement that Battlegrounds is coming to Xbox One.

The game will launch for the console on December 12 - via Early Access on the console.

"We’re approaching development on Xbox One with the same community-driven focus that we’ve taken with the game on PC," writes Kim in a post on Xbox Wire.

"As a result, the ultimate battle royale experience that fans play on Xbox One will be slightly different than what players know today on PC."

"In addition to announcing Xbox’s XGP launch date on December 12, we also shared the exciting news that we’re on track to launch 1.0 for the PC version in late December

"This has been an amazing year for us and launching both 1.0 on PC and on Xbox through Xbox Game Preview are huge milestones for the team

"I’m incredibly proud of how far we’ve come in such a short time, but I’m even more excited to say that we’re just getting started."

The Xbox One version of the game will be getting some special content, too:

"In celebration of PUBG’s upcoming launch on Xbox One, we’ve collaborated closely with the team at Xbox to create three special, limited-edition cosmetic packs – the PUBG Warrior Pack, the PUBG Accessory Pack and the PUBG Tracksuit Pack.

These packs are exclusive to Xbox fans as standalone offers available for a limited time and as there are no plans to feature any in-game purchases in the Xbox Game Preview version, are the only items that can be purchased during the preview period.

We’re super excited to be able to bring these to Xbox One fans who have been eagerly awaiting the game as a special thank you for your patience and passion for PUBG. We’ll be sharing more details on timing and pricing in the weeks ahead."

The game will finally be available on console on December 12... but there's still no word on a PS4 release date.

It looks like we could finally get an update on the status of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds on Xbox One.

After a mysterious tweet yesterday that confirmed that the developer of the game was in Paris, we have confirmation today that PlayerUnknown will be taking to a live stream with Microsoft to announce something.

Posting a tweet from France, the developer showed off that he was standing with Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg - suggesting that an announcement about the game on the platform could be much closer than we thought.

"I’ll be live at @ParisGamesWeek a little later w/ @aarongreenberg to reveal something special... #PGW2017" reads the tweet, which you can see below.

We know the game has been due to drop on the console for a while, but we could finally be seeing a proper release date for the game soon.

We'll keep you updated as more information breaks.

This comes after yesterday, when we got news that PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds could be coming to PS4 much sooner than we anticipated.

The popular battle royale-based survival game has been rumoured to be coming to PS4 for a while, after a defined period of exclusivity on Xbox One.

The game has yet to be released on Microsoft's console, however.

But in a shocking tweet today, the creative director behind the game has tweeted an image of the Eiffel Tower - suggesting he's in Paris ahead of Sony's Paris Games Week press event.

You can see the tweet in question below the jump.

This is highly likely to mean Sony is finally ready to announce something about the game's release date on the console.

This comes after a series of dubious mixed messages about the status of the game on the console, with both the developer and Microsoft refusing to say outright whether or not PUBG would be a Microsoft-exclusive console title.

Ahead of any official announcements, all we know is that PUBG is getting closer to release on Xbox One and PC - and ahead of the proper release, a new desert style map is planned.

PC Gamer magazine has been fortunate to get hands-on with the new map, not in a competitive sense, but just to explore and see everything the new map has to offer.

"What I find is a sprawling battle arena crowded with desert trees, cacti, and a surprising number of buildings," writes Christopher Livingston, staff writer for the magazine.

"It's immediately noticeable how much more variation there is to the terrain than in Erangel, PUBG's current map.

"There are hills, rises, and ditches in the landscape, which should create lots of opportunities for cover from sniper fire, or alternatively, convenient places to stage an ambush.

"The varied terrain will make a difference not just for those running around in PUBG but also those driving, I'm told by art director Taeseok Jang, who I chat with over Skype during my visit.

"Vehicle handling will act and feel much differently depending on whether players are on smooth, paved surfaces or offroading on rough terrain."

There's still no telling when the map will launch, as PC Gamer notes that large portions are still very much "a work in progress".
