BLANTYRE WATER BOARD RECALLS OVER 3000 FAULTY PREPAID METERS

Blantyre Water Board (BWB) says it has recalled over 3000 faulty prepaid meters, which have been temporarily replaced with some postpaid meters.

BWB Chief Executive Officer, Robert Hanjahanja, said that the institution is now expected to hold an engagement with representatives of one of the foreign prepaid meter manufacturers expected to jet in next week.

However, the Executive Director for the Centre for Social Accountability and Transparency, Willy Kambwandira, has challenged the water utility body to be transparent enough in its dealings regarding the matter, including prosecuting its officials involved in the procurement of the faulty pre-paid meters.

Early this year, BWB announced that it was recalling some of its prepaid meters after they were discovered to have factory faults, leading to the institution losing about K8.8 billion.
