TYT in Brunei for ruler’s birthday, discusses bilateral issues

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib arrived here yesterday for a one-day visit to attend the Sultan of Brunei’s 72nd birthday celebration.

Taib and Raghad landed here around 1.35pm and were welcomed by Brunei Minister in the Prime Minister Department Dato Seri Paduka Awang Abdul Mokti Mohd Daud, before heading to Istana Darul Aman for an audience with Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah.

The meeting lasted nearly half an hour with discussions on areas of cooperation, including promotion of economic activities and other sectors, between Sarawak and Brunei.

Both sides had already established a joint-committee on multi-sectoral cooperation which include halal food production and exports which both Sarawak and Brunei are keen to pursue.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, who is the minister-in-attendance for the visit, said the Sultan and Taib also spoke of strengthening cooperation in economic activities, tourism and livestock production for halal food export markets.

The Sarawak delegation was among the seven foreign guests invited for an audience with the Sultan.
