A protest rally was planned for Monday in Portland's Lobsterman Park against the separation of migrant families who have come to the United States seeking asylum.
According to organizers, the protest was planned for noon Monday.
“Initially I wanted to hold a big sign up for people in traffic,” organizer Zack Rouda said in a statement. “If you all want to join me, that would be terrific.”
President Donald Trump on Wednesday signed an executive order that stopped the separations, but his administration said those separated will not be immediately reunited.
No children have been brought to Maine, according to the federal Department Health of Human Services.
An official with department said more than 2,300 children separated from their parents at the border as a result of a zero-tolerance policy on illegal crossings.
