The official Twitter handle of national carrier Air India was hacked last night. The cyber attack came to heed late midnight on Thursday after a series of tweets, including one, in particular, claiming cancellation of all Air India flights was tweeted by the official account of the airline. As per the latest information the Twitter handle is ‘fully functional now.’
The airlines tweeted from its official handle, “Early today Air India twitter handle was hacked. We would like to inform our passengers, that the handle is fully functional now. Further there is no cyber security threat on this handle and security measures have been taken. Thank you Twitter, Twitter India.”
Earlier Air India had issued a statement saying: “The Air India official twitter handle @airtindiain has been hacked late last night with a malafide intent to mislead passengers. Air India immediately swung into action and took up the matter with the twitter authorities. All malicious content was removed on a war-footing. It is expected that normalcy would be restored soon. All Air India flights are operating as per schedule. Passengers are requested to ignore any misleading qand mischievous communication on our operations.”
Pro-Turkish tweets were shared on the account, one of the tweet read, “Your account has been hacked by the Turkish cyber army Ayyildiz Tim. Your DM correspondence and important data have been captured.”
Another tweet, which was pinned to the page read, “Last minute important announcement: All our flights have been cancelled. From now we will fly with Turkish Airlines.”
The hackers changed the official Air India Twitter handle (@airindiain) to @airindiaTR.
The Twitter handle of Air India, which has over thousands of followers, was been overridden by I ayyıldızt group which claims to be a Turkish Cypriot Army on their Twitter handle. Twitter also removed the verified mark from the Air India handle after its name was changed by the hackers.
