Bishkek, Jan. 23, 2018 / Kabar /. 2018 is declared as the year of Uzbekistan in Kazakhstan whereas 2019 will be the year of Kazakhstan in Uzbekistan. To mark this, Almaty hosted a kurultai of scientists from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan where the participants discussed a role of the Silk Road and revival of the common spiritual heritage. Nearly 200 public figures, scientists, and government officials of the two countries took part in the conference, where they discussed ways of promoting Turkic cultures. Last year the leaders of the two states agreed to host such events which are necessary for further cooperation. According to the kurultai participants, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are united not only by a common border, but a common culture.
ABDULAKHAT KAKHAROV, ADVISOR, UZBEK GEOGRAPHICAL COMMUNITY:
- This conference is a first step of a grand project that will prove to the entire world that Kazakhstan is the successor of the western branch of the Silk Road, and Uzbekistan is the successor of the southern branch of the Silk Road. The great spiritual heritage of the two fraternal peoples and the two countries show that from ancient times we have been connected by ties of blood brotherhood, a single territory, a single language, common traditions, customs and a single history. Representatives of Uzbekistan came with one more mission to the kurultai to declare that Kazakhstan’s present territory is the cradle of Islam in Central Asia. The missionaries from the Middle East first came to Kazakhstan and engaged in educational activities. The mausoleum of one of the muftis was discovered not far away from Shymkent. The Altyn Kopir Foundation and the Institute of Oriental Studies will be engaged in development of an international project to study the spread of Islam along the Great Silk Road on the territory of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
AMIRSAID USMANKHODJAYEV, MEMBER, INTERNATIONAL ACADEMY OF SCIENCES OF ECOLOGY OF SAFETY OF HUMANS AND NATURE:
- We visited the mausoleum of our ancestor. I came to inform the Kazakh public that the former Isfidjab, today Sairam, is the center of the spread of Islam in Central Asia. Today, relations between the two countries are closely connected through trade and economic partnerships. During Nursultan Nazarbayev’s state visit to Uzbekistan in September last year, several important agreements were signed in various areas. The signed documents have made it possible to improve conditions for mutual trade and investment. As a result, the trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan has increased by 30% and amounted to nearly US$2 billion.
