APM Terminal Pipavav partially hit due to malware attack

New Delhi, June 28 () Private port operator APM Terminals Pipavav's operations have partially been hit by the Petya malware, which is assessing the situation to limit the impact.
JNPT terminal operations have already been affected due to the malware hit.
"There has been partial impact at APM Terminals (Gujarat Pipavav Port Ltd). We are assessing the situation," a spokesperson from APM Terminal Pipavav told today.
"On Tuesday, June 27, A P Moller-Maersk was hit as part of a global cyber attack affecting multiple sites and business units. There has been partial impact at APM Terminals (Gujarat Pipavav Port Ltd)," the company said.
A statement from the company said it is responding to the situation to limit the impact and sustain operations.
The port has tie-ups with AP Moller-Maersk and earlier this month, a 10,100 TEU capacity Maersk Gibraltar arrived at APM Terminals Pipavav, marking the first call of Maersk Line's ME1 Service to the facility and a new record for the largest vessel ever to visit the Pipavav Port.
TEU is short for twenty foot equivalent unit and measures the capacity of a container ship and terminal.
The newly-added weekly loop linking Europe, the Middle East and India provides direct connections to Pipavav with Salalah, Oman; Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; Port Tangier, Morocco; Felixstowe, UK; Antwerp, Belgium; Bremerhaven and Wilhelmshaven, Germany; Rotterdam, The Netherlands; Algeciras, Spain; Aqaba, Jordan and ebel Ali in the UAE.
The 337-metre long Maersk Gibraltar loaded cargoes of refrigerated agricultural products, and iron castings for export.
The Maersk group earlier confirmed that its operations were hit by the cyber incident. "We can confirm that on Tuesday, June 27, AP Moller-Maersk was hit as part of a cyber attack named Petya, affecting multiple sites and select business units," Maersk said in a tweet.
It also said, "We are responding to the situation to contain and limit the impact and uphold operations." The group is "assessing and managing" the situation to minimise the impact on its customers and partners.
An expansion at APM Terminal Pipavav was recently completed, which has increased annual throughput capacity to 1.35 million TEUs.
APM Terminals Pipavav (Gujarat Pipavav Port Ltd) is India's first public private partnership (PPP) port in India with excellent connectivity to the Gujarat region and the northern hinterlands of India. It serves as a gateway for movement of containers, bulk, liquid and Ro-Ro cargo.
